Comments: A green or brown conehead katydid. The cone is distinctively unmarked below, longer than wide, and rounded at the tip.
Forewing Length: 40-42 mm (Blatchley, 1920)
Structural Features: The tegmina are longer than both the hind tibiae and ovipositor (Blatchley, 1920).
Singing Behavior: The songs consist of buzzy trills that have a frequency range that extends below 8 kHz and is consequently audible to hummans. These trills are pulsating but unbroken by pauses.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Blatchley (1920) described this species as inhabiting the undergrowth of pine forests in the Southeast.
Diet: Species in this genus are strongly associated with grasses and have been observed feeding on seeds -- explaining their very powerful jaws -- as well as leaf blades (Himmelman, 2009).

Adult Phenology: In North Carolina, adults begin to appear in June, having developed from overwintering eggs.
