Comments: Gryllus veletis and pennsylvanicus co-occur in the North Carolina mountains and overlap in July (Alexander and Bigelow, 1960). During that time period, there is no way to distinguish the two except by genetic analysis.

Singing adults were in an infrequently mowed field at 2700'; air temp. = 81F (27.2C). Calling in late August when the two species overlap in phenology.
