Taxonomy
Family: CERAMBYCIDAE Subfamily: Aseminae                                                             
Comments: One of two species in North Carolina
Species Status: Belongs to subfamily Aseminae and tribe Asemini. Members have relatively short antennae, reaching (Yanega, 1996). The pronotum lacks a distinct margin and the head is not narrowed behind the eyes.

Comments: The head, pronotum, and elytra are vinaceous-red with no maculations.
Total Length [body plus wings; excludes ovipositor]: 15-25 mm (Yanega, 1996)
Structural Features: The third tarsomeres of the hindlegs are cleft nearly to the base compared to only halfway in A. foveicollis (Lingafelter, 2007)

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Our few records come from the low mountains and western Piedmont, in areas where White Pine is the most common species of conifer. However, it is not limited to feeding on that species.

Diet: Larvae feed on the roots and bases of Pine species, including dead pines (Yanega, 1996; Lingafelter, 2007). This species has become a pest in areas such as Australia and South America where it has been introduced.
