A pale yellow to yellowish-orange species with a small red mark restricted to the middle of the wings. These red marks are cube-shaped, often times with a lateral branch in the form of a small red dot on the side. The rest of the wings have yellowish markings, with a pair of bold black spots near the wing tips. There can be some variation in the color pattern. The top of the head has two parallel orange submedial lines, often with a lateral branch; the midline is pale. The pronotum has a yellowish-orange Y, V, or M-shaped mark; the scutellum is yellowish-orange. The face and underside of the thorax are entirely pale. Adults are 2.8- 3.0 mm long. (3I)

Eastern United States, mostly recorded from the Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys; the records here appear to be the first time this species has been recorded east of the Appalachians. (3I) |

Uncommon to rare, recorded from several counties in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain where it can be locally abundant; probably more abundant in the right habitat. |

This species could be confused with E. stoveri as both have small red markings on the clavus of the wings. However, in E. micheneri the red markings are in the form of a red cube, often times with a smaller red lateral branch; in E. stoveri, the red markings are in the form of small dots.
This species could also be confused with some color variations of E. era. While that species typically has a red band transversing the wings, some individuals have an incomplete band restricted to the middle of the wings, formed out of red shapes. Note though that the red in these individuals is much larger than in micheneri, usually angled upwards and not in a cube shape; the smaller red mark on either side is also bigger in E. era and connected with the larger marks, giving the impression of a continuous red patch. This is not the case in E. micheneri, where the small and larger red marks are distinct from one another. |
