Comments: Specimens that are currently recognized as Lacinipolia laudabilis appear to represent a species complex. Comparisons of genitalia suggest that there are three species in North Carolina, including two undescribed species that occur in the Piedmont, Foothills, and lower elevations in the Blue Ridge, and true L. laudabilis that is only known from the lower Coastal Plain and rarely in the Sandhills. These three forms appear to be indistinguishable based on their external patterning and coloration, and can only be sorted out using genitalia (J.B. Sullivan, pers. comm.). We refer to the two undescribed forms as 'Lacinipolia new species 1 near laudabilis' and 'Lacinipolia new species 2 near laudabilis' to distinguish them from true L. laudabilis. We have numerous specimens from the Piedmont and Blue Ridge that have not been identified based on genitalia. We have included these records here as members of the 'Lacinipolia laudabilis complex'.
