Habitats and Life History
Habitats: North Carolina records come primarily from open, herb-dominated habitats in the Coastal Plain, with many records from maritime dunes on the barrier islands and from flatwoods, savannas, and sand ridges dominated by Longleaf Pines. A few records also come from peatland habitats.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae have been reported to feed on Sweet-gale (Myrica gale) (Robinson et al., 2010), which is restricted to a single location in North Carolina. Given the range of Pero zalissaria, species of Morella are more likely to be the primary hosts in our state. - View
