Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Our records come from high elevation hardwoods and Spruce-fir Forests, as well as cove forests and riparian forests. Some may also come from relatively dry hardwood sites.
Larval Host Plants: All members of this genus feed on ferns (Wagner et al., 2001), and H. fritillaria has specifically been reported to use Bracken Fern (Pteridium aquilinum) (Ferguson, 1975). There is an iNaturalist record (Melinda Fawver, 2024) for a larva feeding on an unknown fern species. - View
