Field Guide Descriptions: Covell (1984); Beadle and Leckie (2012)Online Resources: MPG, BugGuide, iNaturalist, Google, BAMONA, GBIF, BOLD
Adult Markings: The ground color is dull greenish with all markings except for the dentate antemedian and postmedian lines obscure; the black and white points along the veins are usually prominent. A bronze or orange-brown patch is located on the first abdominal segment and a similar band is often evident at the rear edge of the thorax. Heterocampa guttivitta is similar but lacks the bronze patches (patches of duller yellow-brown may be present). It also possess a series of rounded brown patches in the subterminal area that are not present in Misogada.
Adult Structural Features: The accessory cell of the forewing extends 1/3 of the way to the apex in Misogada, but extends 1/2 of the way in Heterocampa (Forbes, 1948). The eighth sternite lacks punctures in Misogada but is punctate in Heterocampa guttivitta. The antennae of the males are broadly pectinate nearly to the tip in Misogada but become attenuate in the terminal 1/3 to 1/4 in guttivitta.
Adult ID Requirements: Identifiable from photos showing hindwings, abdomen, or other specialized views [e.g., frons, palps, antennae, undersides].
