Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Wagner et al. (2011) list barrens, woodland, and forests as habitats used by this species. Our records span the entire range of hardwoods in North Carolina, ranging from dry-xeric maritime forests to cool mesic Northern Hardwoods on our highest peaks.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae feed primarily on beech and oak but have also been reported on birch, elm, and maple (Wagner et al., 2011). In North Carolina, larvae have been feeding on Cherrybark Oak (Quercus pagoda), Willow Oak (Q. phellos), and Winged Elm (Ulmus alata). - View
