Comments: A Holarctic genus of about 140 species, with 63 recorded in North America, mostly from boreal or montane habitats (Mikkola et al., 2009). Seventeen species occur in North Carolina with the majority of records coming from the mountains.

Distribution in North Carolina

Distribution: This species is mainly northern in its distribution but extends down the Appalachians to North Carolina. The two Piedmont records are likely to represent strays from the mountains.

Habitats and Life History

Habitats: Our records come from both high and low elevations in the Mountains. Habitat information is not well-documented but includes sites located in or near grassy balds, wet meadows, pastures, and cove forests
