Taxonomy
Superfamily: Noctuoidea Family: NoctuidaeSubfamily: CondicinaeTribe: CondiciniP3 Number: 931998 MONA Number: 9699.00
Identification
Field Guide Descriptions: Covell (1984; as Platysenta sutor); Beadle and Leckie (2012)Online Resources: MPG, BugGuide, iNaturalist, Google, BAMONA, GBIF, BOLD
Adult Markings: The ground color is dull fuscous with a reddish tint (Forbes, 1954); in our specimens, a sprinkling of white scales is present at least in fresh specimens. The markings are all dull and non-contrasting but the lines are generally double and traceable. The orbicular is small and obscure and in specimens we have examined, there is small black claviform. The reniform is often the most conspicuous marking, with a double border and a somewhat pale filling. Leckie and Beadle (2018) note that a dark dash often connects the orbicular and reniform. Double black points are located on the veins in the subterminal space and there is a series of white dots representing the terminal line. Hindwwings are dull fuscous and lighter at the base in males.
Adult ID Requirements: Identifiable from good quality photos of unworn specimens.
