Species Status: Once considered a subspecies of Dixioria pela but raised to full species status by Shelley and Whitehead (1986). The type locality is Grandfather Mountain.

Distribution: Restricted to a narrow area of the Blue Ridge Province, from the Escarpment westward to barely into Tennessee (Shelley and Whitehead, 1986)
