Painted Skimmer Libellula semifasciata - John Petranka
|Welcome to North Carolina's online odonate community.|
|This site aims to compile information and images that further our knowledge of the state's dragonflies and damselflies. As with so many groups of plants and animals, NC is at the northern end of odonate ranges with a southern distribution and the southern end of those with a northern distribution.
Our physiographic regions -- Mountain, Piedmont, Sandhill, Coastal Plain and Tidewater -- display a diversity of habitats that provide an almost endless opportunity for discovery.
We hope you come away with an enhanced appreciation for the fascinating creatures that have made this planet their home for over 250 million years.

|This site is dedicated to the memory of Duncan Cuyler; who was without question the state's foremost authority on the odonates. The majority of our collection records are from his work.|
