Field Marks: The Mississippi Map Turtle (G. pseudogeographia kohni)is distinguished from the nominate subspecies in its lack of a tranverse cream-colored bar on the chin; in possessing a longitudinal yellow mark at the angle of the jaws (Enrst and Lovich, 2009). The iris is typically white and lacks a bisecting line. The post-orbital line is usually so long that it prevents any of the stripes on the neck from reaching the orbit.
Morphological Features: The scutes on the carapaces are smooth rather than lumpy (Enrst and Lovich, 2009).
