Identification
Online Description/Photos: The female prosoma is cream to pale yellow, with dark mottling throughout. The female opisthosoma is cream to pale yellow, with mottled dark markings in the general appearance of three pairs of spots on either side of the midline. The male prosoma is dark reddish brown. There are white submarginal bands and a white marking between the posterior median eyes. A black angled dash reaches from the outer edge of the anterior median eyes to the posterior lateral eyes. (I often hear people refer to these marks as “angry eyebrows.”) The clypeus is dark reddish brown. The male opisthosoma is dark reddish brown, and a band crosses the anterior and continues down the lateral sides to the spinnerets; it is broken at the posterior end. Paired white spots may be on the dorsal surface, but these often get rubbed off and may be missing. The legs of both the males and the females are cream and banded in black. P. galathea looks similar to other Pelegrina species. The females can be distinguished by the pattern on the opisthosoma, while the males have a wider prosoma than the other species and do not have a white marking on the clypeus. Rose, 2022.
