Identification
Online Description/Photos: The female prosoma is pale tan to cream colored, with a somewhat mottled appearance. The opisthosoma is pale tan to cream colored. There is a pale anterior band. Four pairs of dark spots are on either side of the midline; the more posterior the spots are, the larger they are. The male prosoma is dark reddish brown. White submarginal bands and a white marking are between the posterior median eyes. A black angled dash reaches from the outer edge of the anterior median eyes to the posterior lateral eyes. (I often hear people refer to these marks as “angry eyebrows.”) The clypeus has a central white marking, and there are white cheek markings. The male opisthosoma is dark reddish brown, and a band crosses the anterior and continues down the lateral sides to the spinnerets. The legs are tan and banded in dark brown. P. proterva looks similar to other Pelegrina species. The females can be distinguished by the pattern on the opisthosoma, while the males have a narrower prosoma than the other species and have a white marking on the clypeus. Rose, 2022.
