Comments:
hip-so-SING-uh. Hypsosinga have a higher clypeus than Singa, so "hypso" (Greek for "high") is added to make "high Singa."
Species Comment:

Technical Description:
Spiders of North America - Bradley; Bugguide
Comments:
Oval shaped abdomen is orange or orange with black at the rear and two black or lighter spots at the sides. Cephalathorax is orange with a black area around the eye region. The legs can be black or orange and darker near the ends with several spines. The males of the genus often have a black abdomen contrasting with orange cephalathorax. Immatures can be all black, with a white spot in center of cephalathorax and a white border area ringing around sides of abdomen, with black and white banded legs. Can resemble Florinda coccinia, which is brighter red and more slender with longer legs, and has a sheet web.

Small, female total body length 7.4-8.7 mm, male total body length 6.0-6.5 mm.

Distribution in North Carolina
Comments:
Occasional throughout North Carolina and the eastern United States. Adults can be seen from spring through summer.

Habitats:
Forest understory, shrubs and low vegetation.
Observation Methods:
Visual observation, sweep netting, beat sheets and leaf litter sifting.

Occasional.
Silk / Web:
Small orb web built in low vegetation. Female makes round shaped egg sacs, white in color attached near web.
Behavior:
It may hide under bark or in leaf litter.
