Comments: One of 21 species in this genus that occur in North America north of Mexico (Lafontaine and Schmidt, 2010), seven of which have been recorded in North Carolina.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: The majority of our records come from barrier islands where stands of evergreen oaks occur. It has also been frequently observed in Coastal Fringe Sandhill habitats on the mainland and in xeric sand ridges forming Carolina Bay rims as far west as Bladen County. One historic record exists from Transylvania County but probably represents either an error or an extreme stray.
