Comments: One of 21 species in this genus that occur in North America north of Mexico (Lafontaine and Schmidt, 2010), seven of which have been recorded in North Carolina.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Woodlands and forests (Wagner, 2005). Our records come from a wide range of hardwood forests and shrublands across the state.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae are polyphagous, feeding on a wide range of hardwood trees and shrubs (Wagner, 2005). In North Carolina, we have observed it feeding on Florida Maple (Acer floridanum), Box-elder (A. negundo), Red Maple (A. rubrum), Flowering Dogwood (Benthamidia florida), River Birch (Betula nigra), American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana), American Beech (Fagus grandifolia), Common Waxmyrtle (Morella cerifera), Sourwood (Oxydendrum arboreum), and Stiff Dogwood (Swida foemina). - View
