Field Guide Descriptions: Covell (1984); Beadle and Leckie (2012)Online Resources: MPG, BugGuide, iNaturalist, Google, BAMONA, GBIF, BOLDTechnical Description, Adults: Forbes (1954)
Adult Markings: This species is very similar in appearance to Rusicada privata. In contrast to R. privata, A. erosa has a well-developed tooth on both the antemedian and postmedian lines. In R. privata, the antemedian line appears scalloped, without the obvious tooth of A. erosa. A. erosa generally has a more yellowish ground color compared with R. privata, which can be heavily dusted with reddish scales. But there seems to be some overlap between redder specimens of A. erosa and more yellow specimens of R. privata, so coloration may not be a reliable means of distinguishing the species.
Structural photos
Adult ID Requirements: Identifiable from photos showing hindwings, abdomen, or other specialized views [e.g., frons, palps, antennae, undersides].
