Above-ground portions of the tubes are vertical or semi-horizontal, attached to tree trunks or grass (Coyle, pers. comm. cited by Beatty, 1986). The tubes of S. coylei, which is largely sympatric, are similar but semi-horizontal tubes have not been seen.
