Field Guide Descriptions: Online Resources: MPG, BugGuide, iNaturalist, Google, BAMONA, GBIF, BOLD
Adult Markings: "I have been unable to detect any difference in the external appearance of the adults of A. dissimulatrix and A. nyssaecolella. Nevertheless, the genitalia of the two species leave no doubt that dissimulatrix is a distinct species" (Neunzig, 2003).

Distribution in North Carolina
Distribution: Our genitalia-based identifications as of 2024 are all from the Coastal Plain, which suggests that populations farther west are very likely A. nyssaecolella.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: All of our confirmed records for this species come from Coastal Plain sites located near blackwater wetlands, although upland stands may be closely adjacent.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae reportedly feed on tupelo (Nyssa spp.), and Heinrich (1956) listed Swamp Tupelo (N. biflora) as a host plant. All of the sites where this species has been confirmed by dissection in North Carolina are located in habitats that contain Swamp Tupelo, although Black Tupelo (N. sylvatica) may also be present. - View
